 Background

In the era of global efforts to address climate change and advance sustainable development goals (SDGs), forests, as a critical pillar of ecosystems, have become increasingly vital. From safeguarding biodiversity to regulating the climate, conserving water sources, and preserving soil, forests play an irreplaceable role in maintaining the Earth’s ecological balance. In the pursuit of economic growth and poverty eradication, forests contribute valuable employment opportunities and resources.

Forestry, as a resource-intensive sector, has long grappled with balancing ecological conservation and economic benefits. In the context of intertwined global economic and sustainable development goals, female leaders – with their resilience, inclusivity, and collaborative management styles – excel at integrating diverse stakeholders’ interests, and emerge as pivotal forces in driving industry transformation. Thanks to their unique perspectives, delicate perception, and unwavering perseverance, they have achieved remarkable progress in scientific innovation, ecological conservation practices, and policy advocacy. At the 2023 and 2024 GLSTF Forums, representatives from China, France, Malaysia, Australia, Thailand, and other regions gathered to share their outstanding achievements and profound reflections, engaging in in-depth exchanges and discussions on related topics.

This panel dialogue, themed “Resilience of Women: Decoding Her Empowerment on Green Development”, aims to bring together outstanding female leaders in the forest industry, create a platform for in-depth communication, sharing experience and fostering idea-collisions, explore the unique strengths of women in forestry, identify effective pathways for “She” Power to drive green development, overcome development challenges, inject continuous momentum into sustainable forestry, and enable her to shine brightly in the forest sea.

 Purpose

To share the achievements and experiences of women within and beyond industries in the process of green forestry development. Outstanding “her” cases are presented to decode her empowerment on green development, identify effective pathways for "She" Power to drive sustainable development, break through the barriers to promotion in the industry, and realize "Her" dream of chasing light in the forest sea.
