FAO statistics show that there are approximately 3.2 million female employees in the forestry sector globally, accounting for 23% of the sector's total employment. In most countries, the number of women employed in the forestry sector is less than that of men, with participation rates ranging from 4% to 49% of the total forest-related employment. However, in some countries (especially in Africa), the proportion of women employed in the forestry sector is higher than that of men.
In fact, women are an indispensable force driving the sustainable development of global timber industry. Women's innate qualities of compassion, care, inclusivity, and resilience naturally propel the global timber industry towards development for good, lifting industry hopes with "love" and "care." At the same time, women are also the primary undertakers for maintaining the family' livelihood and ensuring security in life. They possess greater knowledge and understanding on biodiversity, forest resources, and economic development, and are better equipped to propose practical solutions to promote sustainable development of timber industry according to local conditions.
To explore the role and power of "She" in promoting the sustainable development of the global timber industry, discussing how "She" can better unleash potential, showcase feminine charm, and contribute wisdom, so as to fully realize the value of women in the course of sustainable development of timber industry. During the seminar, the Global Timber Industry’s She-Power Initiative will be launched.
